webutilitypro.com is a collection of free, browser-based tools for everyday work with PDFs, Office documents and images: merging, splitting, compressing, converting, protecting and editing. It is built and run by a small independent team of software developers. There is no company behind it selling a bigger product, and there is no sign-up wall, no watermark on your files and no daily limit for ordinary use.
Why we built it
We kept running into the same small jobs: a scanned contract that needed one page extracted, a report that was too large to email, an iPhone photo a form would not accept, a PDF that asked for a password every time it was opened. Each job took a few seconds of actual work and ten minutes of finding a tool that did not want an account, add a watermark, or hide the download behind a subscription. So we built the tools we wanted to use and put them online for everyone.
What we offer
Around ninety tools, organised by task: merge, split, compress, organise and protect PDFs; convert between PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, text and data formats; convert images between JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, SVG and PDF; add page numbers, watermarks, stamps, text, images, QR codes and signatures; OCR scanned documents; and edit files visually in File Studio. Every tool has its own page that explains what it does and what it cannot do, and the Guides go deeper into the questions behind the tools: which image format to pick, what PDF passwords really protect, how to scan so OCR works.
How the tools work
Files are uploaded over HTTPS to our server, processed there by open-source software (the same libraries used in many desktop PDF and office applications), and offered back to you as a download. Processing on the server rather than in your browser is what lets the tools handle large files and formats that browsers cannot open, such as Word and HEIC. The cost of that design is that your file is on our server for a short time, so we keep that time short and are explicit about it.
What happens to your files
- Uploads and results are deleted automatically 60 minutes after upload. You can delete them sooner with the delete button on every result.
- Nobody on the team opens your documents. They are read by software and then removed.
- Files are not used to train anything, not analysed for advertising, and not shared with third parties.
- Passwords you enter to unlock a PDF are used once and not stored.
- No account is needed, so there is no profile that links uploads to a person.

How the site is funded
The tools are free. We cover hosting costs with unobtrusive advertising on some pages and may offer an API for developers who need to automate conversions. Advertising never affects what a tool does, and we do not sell or share your files or personal data with advertisers.
How we write and maintain the guides
The guides are written by the developers who build the tools, based on how the software actually behaves and on the questions people send us. Each guide says what a tool cannot do as plainly as what it can, and gives the offline way to do the same job. When a tool changes, the guides that mention it are reviewed and their "updated" date is set. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will fix it.
